When launched, QuickFormat! performs a self-diagnosis to try and determine if it has been infected by a virus. If it determines that it has, then QuickFormat! will present you with a dialog telling you so. I have incorporated this feature due to the increased risk of viral infection in the Mac community. Since QuickFormat! is distributed over telephone lines, and may travel through several computers before reaching you, this seemed to be a necessity.
What Should I Do?
If you get a message telling you that your copy is infected, the first thing you should do is run a anti-viral program such as Disinfectant. Disinfectant, in my opinion, is the best anti-viral software available for the Macintosh‚Ñ¢. It can be found on almost every BBS system, and it is free of charge.
How Can I Further Protect Myself?
If you don't already have protection against viruses, it is strongly recommended that you get some, especially if you download lots of software from BBS's. You should always provide protection against viruses. The best way to do this is get one of several INIT's "out there" which checks for unauthorized or strange action. Just pop them in your system folder; then your protection is automatic upon boot up.
